Socket Error # 10061 in Projetex 5D Workstation
Posted by Mykhailo Serhiievskyi (AIT) on 20 February 2025 10:06 PM

Problem:

After Projetex 5D Serer and Projetex 5D Workstation installation, I cannot see any files in the application.

I get the error "Checking server file storage: Unable to connect to the file server! Contact your database administrator to check the status of the file server" on Workstation startup.

Whenever I try to see any files in the application, I see the warning:
"Error: Socket Error # 10061
Connection refused."

Cause: most likely, the Projetex Cloud Server is misconfigured, inaccessible, or running.

Solution:

1. Projetex Cloud Server is not running

- On the computer where Projetex Server is installed, install Projetex 5D Workstation application.

- Start Projetex 5D (Adm)Workstation, sign in with "admin" account (or another Projetex account with administrator privileges)

- Go to Settings - Administrator - Projetex Cloud Server

- Click "Start Cloud" to start the Cloud Server.

2. Projetex Cloud Server in misconfigured

- Repeat the steps described above, but do not start the server.

- Click "Server settings"

- Set "Server:" field to the IP address of your Projetex Server computer. This IP must be accessible from your workstation computers. You may want to set 0.0.0.0 here to make the server listen on all available server interfaces.

- You may want to adjust the Port as well, as needed. Default ort is 216 (TCP).

- Press OK to save the settings, then start Cloud Server.

- On Workstations, in Projetex 5D Workstation open Settings - Administrator - Server File Storage, and set the Cloud Server URL as follows:
http://<Projetex Server IP address>:<Port>
for example, if our Projetex Server runs on the IP address 192.168.56.1 and port 216, the URL should be
http://192.168.56.1:216

- Press Check Cloud to check the settings

3. Projetex Server is inaccessible

- Make sure that the Cloud Server is running on the IP address accessible from your workstation computer. You may want to ping it. Note: ICMP protocol must be allowed for ping to work properly.

- Make sure the Cloud Server port is opened and listening on your server. You may need to add the corresponding firewall rule. Antivirus software may prevent workstations from connecting, so you might want to adjust or disable it.

To check the port availability, you may use the tcping utility. You may get it here: https://tcping.org/ (or google it, it is free and their official site may be unresponsive)
Usage: start the command prompt (cmd), and run
tcping.exe <your server address> <your port>

in the folder where tcping.exe is.
