"Class not registered" error during export to XLS

Q: I get an error when exporting my report to MS Excel. The operation works fine in RTF.

Here is the error message:

Error while opening Excel
Class not registered ClassID:
00024500-0000-0000-c000-00000000046

A: Please repair your Office installation as described here:
